Bupkes is the chosen running mate of presidential nominee Diddley Squat, as well as his brother and litter-mate. They were both born in the early hours of 25 September 2004 to Donna and her husband, Cecil, in a huge litter of babies of whom 14 survived infancy.

At an early age, Bupkes showed himself to be astute and well-behaved, and he quickly caught the eye of the national hamster campaign which met in Washington, DC, just a very few weeks after his birth. With brother Diddley, he was a popular choice for presidential nominee, taking second slot partly because of the difficulties involved in photographing black hamsters. Bupkes is an expert in many fields, and holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Hamsterdam.
