Donna is one of the campaign's most exceptional hamsters. Her birth date is unknown, but she came to the community as a very small, 2.6-ounce youth on the first day of August, 2004. Her weight at that time was consistent with an age between four and six weeks.
Donna became part of the community because Cecil, the then-year-old son of Yoda and Diamond, was still unmarried and sought a bride. In answer to his advertisement, along came the gorgeous and outgoing little Donna (short for "prima donna," which means "first lady"). After she grew to full maturity (3.5 ounces), Donna and Cecil were married, and subsequently honeymooned. On the 25th of September 2004, Donna gave birth to what may have been the largest litter ever born in the history of the extended hamster family (including the litter of 16 born to Opus and Yofa on 4 February 2003). Fourteen babies survived, and at least two were lost in the second week. Among the survivors are the presidential and vice-presidential nominees, Diddley Squat V and Bupkes. Two other sons, both named Inky, reside in Virginia and assist Mama Donna in her role as social activities director for the Hamster For President Campaign Committee. A daughter, Didi, an Ohio resident, is on the campaign staff.
