The delightful Merlotte is the daughter of Bitty, a hamster rescued in September from a shelter in Northern Virginia. Immediately after sending Bitty to a permanent and loving home, it was discovered by the shelter that her old nest contained a litter of newborn babies. They were promptly rushed to their mother, and all thrived and grew strong and beautiful. Merlotte, of course, was one of that litter, born September 22nd of 2004.

Merlotte came to live with the Hamster For President community in early November of 2004, and promptly became engaged to marry Tyson, the nephew of the venerable former HFP nominee, Potus. The lovely couple married late on the 2nd of January, 2005.
